Complete wireless data capture solution for Kontio
Informa developed a new wireless solution for Kontio, including devices and mobile applications for capturing data from log barcodes.
The log production company’s starting point for data capture was that the terminals in use were getting old and were equipped with a USB docking station and were not durable enough for industrial use. With the new WLAN network, Kontio also wanted to make data capturing wireless.
A complete solution delivered by Informa
In log production, a barcode label attached to the ends of the logs is scanned, and the information is wirelessly transmitted to cloud storage using data capture terminals at six different workstations.
Informa developed a solution for Kontio that involved upgrading the data capture devices to modern standards. Zebra TC52x Touch Computers with a 5″ Full HD screen were chosen as the data capture devices. The screen has more space for viewing information than the old devices had. The touch screen also works when whet, with a gloved finger or a stylus. The screen is easy to read in bright sunlight. The devices have a battery life of up to 14 hours, allowing for an uninterrupted work shift. The Android application was developed by Heikki Susi, a software engineer at Informa. The application is easy to use. It sends scanned barcodes to the NiceLabel server, which creates a file in the correct format and sends the data to the customer’s cloud storage.
